AURORA | Police say a phone call to the city’s 911 center threatening police officers Monday and a shooting later that day in which officers may have been shot at are unrelated.
Still, police said, they are taking the threatening phone call seriously and trying to track down the caller.
“When violence, or threats of violence occur towards officers, we take it very serious, because I expect my officers to go home safe to their families at the end of their shift,” Aurora police Chief Nick Metz said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.
The threatening phone call came into the dispatch center at 5:49 p.m. Monday.
On it, the caller, who appears to be a man, says: “It’s time that you guys know we are no longer playing around with the police departments. Aurora and Denver we are about to start striking fear shooting down all cops that we see by their selves. This will go for the Sheriff’s Department. You guys are evicting innocent people. Let us catch you by y’all self and it’s shots fired.”
Police said the call was traced back to a disconnected cell phone.
Police are asking anyone with information about the call to contact Sergeant Todd Renner at 303-739-1690.
Later Monday night, around 9:45 p.m., dispatch received multiple calls reporting shots fired in the 1900 block of Elmira Street. Two officers in the area on an unrelated call also heard what sounded like gun shots, police said.
The officers heard additional shots when they were in an alley between the 1700 blocks of Elmira and Florence streets and those shots were in the direction of the officers, police said.
The officers were not hurt and police couldn’t find anyone who was wounded.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shots to call Detective Brian Schnicke at 303-739-6931.
Callers with tips about either case can also contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867). Tipsters to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and are eligible for a $2,000 reward.
Metz said this is a difficult time for police, and said people who threaten police are especially dangerous.
“The other reality is if they are willing to hurt an officer, they are certainly willing to victimize folks in the community,” he said.

I take it the key word the caller used is evicting?
ALL the police hating is the result of a racist agenda pushed by Obama and liberals. Just keep voting these racists in…..that includes you stupid as a black of wood white trailer trash.
Watch you backs guys. Remember that Black Lives Matter but yours apparently don’t.
Whole lotta hate going on by the right-wing nut jobs below.
Officers in my community are willing to victimize folks that call 911 for medical help.
When law enforcement are not held accountable for their actions the entire system falls apart and tax payers won’t trust you. I won’t ever call 911 for any reason, want to stay healthy and avoid being beaten and tortured by the sheriffs office.
