AURORA | An Aurora police officer shot Friday night is expected to survive, but the shooter remains at large even after a massive search covered a huge swath of northwest Aurora. As of Sunday, the shooter and even clues eluded intensive police investigation.
The incident happened shortly after 9 p.m. near East 17th Avenue and Fulton Street.
Police said two officers pulled over a car but when they approached, the driver fired several shots out of the driver’s side window, striking one of the officers. The second officer shot back at the car, but the vehicle sped off.
Aurora police increased the reward to $7,000 for information leading to the suspect.
The wounded officer was rushed to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery. Early Saturday morning, police said the officer is out of surgery and expected to survive.
Officers found the suspect’s vehicle a few blocks north a short time after the shooting, but the shooter had fled.
Aurora police along with hep from Denver police and the Jefferson County sheriff’s office searched the area well into the early morning hours, but did not locate the suspect. Police did not release a description of the suspect.
The car the suspect was driving had been reported stolen a few minutes prior to the shooting, police said.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or knows anything about the case to call detective Warren Miller at 303-739-6117. Tipsters can also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867) or text a tip to 274637 (CRIMES) with the title DMCS. Tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 reward.

The suspect abandoned his vehicle a couple blocks from the scene of the shooting. I doubt the vehicle can be traced to the suspect, as many criminals, including undocumented immigrants, use stolen or unregistered “throw-away” cars so they can abandon the vehicle and then flee the scene of an accident or crime on foot.
Undocumented immigrants have zero to do with this story. And linking criminals and immigrants together is highly offensive.
I find it highly offensive you don’t think illegal immigrants are criminals.
I’m offended, as I was being politically correct by using the term undocumented immigrants instead of illegal aliens.
I hope the officer heals quickly and there is no way this guy will be found. In time, I do hope he will be by another police agency.
guys guys guys….we’re all irritated by our gov, fed, state, local failing to come up with a true comprehensive plan to address the incursion on our borders. but let’s work together instead of fighting each other huh? please?
Hopefully he left some DNA, finger prints, or other stuff in the car and has been arrested somewhere else, for something. Amazing what can happen in this day and age? That is when they have shooting (especially at police) to make it serious. Times have changed since the 2003-2007 era, when we just made repairs, and moved on. Calling police then would result in someone showing up (? If caller stated they thought they saw a weapon). But actually shooting at civilian or police, will get attention now, after folks started to indicate they were headed to join Jihadists? And some even have headed out, surprised when they were stopped and returned to parents or where they left, for prosecution. I say great for our side. Need to expand that.
Hey, APD and Frank Fania, please explain the difference between calling a suspect a (knucklehead) and a (marshmallow head) ? Ummmm, I’ll wait patiently.
Yours truly, JoeAnn
APD Frank Fania, should you get a reprimand for calling this suspect a knucklehead like one officer that called a suspect a marshmallow head. Oh, and big thanks for being a PPA police member but don’t support any police, my emails did more then you ever trying which was nothing. I think you should be replaced because you suck at your job and your phony.
Yours truly,
APD Officers WIFE .
Oops, on your last name PPA – APA Frank, you must not be to important for me to remember your last name all these years later, but you still suck at your job. Do you send your secretary to support all police hearings? Wow, what a great job you must have to send her when you should be there and isn’t that the PPA, head job description for your job or the department’s? Maybe, I will see you in District Court?
Do we have a new Police Chief? Ken Murphy is the perfect man for the job.
kinda hard to help without a description. I’m not “fedup” with Aurora Police…. just need more information please
Oh, I get it PPA- FRANK, a KNUCKLEHEAD and MARSHMALLOW HEAD means both suspects tried to kill cops, although McIrvine shot that suspect.
I heard your jumping the boat? The PPA, means Police Protection Agency and you send your secretary to attend a police hearing. Thanks for the great support there, dude!
Mrs. Falco, you’re husband’s a cancer and an embarrassment to the APD and police officers across the country. You are just like him in the manner you continue to embarrass yourself on these message boards. Many officers wish you would both just go away.
APD’S New Police Chief are they being fit for the job, or does this go threw Toxic Oates by chance since he has everyone scared even while gone.
Hopefully, the new chief is not a politician fool but a real cop earning their way to Chief.
We will see who it is in 2015?
