AURORA | The wife of Aurora’s fire chief has been charged with a felony after police say she left the scene of an accident May 14 that left a child injured.

Arapahoe County district attorney George Brauchler said in a statement that Adriene Elizabeth Garcia, 50, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury, a class four felony, as well as careless driving with injury, a traffic infraction.

Brauchler said prosecutors are seeking an arrst warrant for Garcia and after her arrest, further dates in the case will be scheduled.

Garcia’s husband, Mike Garcia, has been the city’s fire chief since 2007.

According to Aurora police, the crash happened around 10:20 p.m. May 14 on East Yale Avenue near South Peoria Street. Police said a blue Hyundai with a male driver and two children inside was waiting at the stop light when a Nissan Pathfinder, driven by Adriene Garcia, slammed into the back of the car.

The driver of the Nissan drove away from the scene and police later contacted her several miles away near East Belleview Avenue and South Chambers Road.

Police said the two children in the Hyundai were not wearing their seatbelts and both were injured. One child had non-life threatening injuries that required hospitalization, police said.

The driver of the Hyundai could also face charges because the children were not wearing seat belts, police said.

Police said they do not believe  intoxication or excessive speed were factors in the crash.

  1. I’d like to know who among us could make the very same moves and would escape a roadside sobriety test on site and arrest?
By the way, if you have a known head injury that might bring about a random hit and run, why are you allowed to drive? Especially if you’re so out of it that you can’t seem to make a distinction that you caused injury to others and need to stop.
This whole thing stinks to high heaven George Braucher. Come on!
