A new student gets help at the front desk during the first day back to school Aug. 5 at East Middle School. Along with thousands of students, the two superintendents in Aurora’s school districts are headed back to school this month, too. Both Rico Munn at Aurora Public Schools and Harry Bull at Cherry Creek Schools District took over as superintendent in summer 2013. AURORA | Several mobile classrooms were evacuated Friday morning, April 15, after school staff found a fake grenade on the East Middle School campus.

Aurora fire Lt. Tony Krenz said crews are searching for any secondary items and the mobile classrooms will remain empty until the search is complete.

The fake grenade was “not a credible threat,” he said.

Aurora police spokesman Sgt. Chris Amsler said the Arapahoe County Bomb Squad was not called and the main school building was not evacuated. Police said the item was a toy.
