ADAMS COUNTY | An Aurora man convicted of beating his 17-month-old son to death in 2015 was sentenced to 20 years in prison Thursday, according to Adams County prosecutors.

Romon Enders was convicted in March of knowing and reckless child abuse causing death for the March 2015 death of his son, Jayden Hernandez at Enders’ home at 1666 Clinton St. in Aurora.

Enders faced between 16 and 48 years in prison, prosecutors said in a statement. Prosecutors sought a sentence closer to 48 years, but a judge sentenced Enders to 20 years in prison during a hearing Thursday.

“An unbelievable amount of force was applied to this 17-month-old child and caused his death,” Assistant District Attorney Jess Redman said in the statement. “These injuries can’t be explained by anything other than a high-speed car accident or a fall from a multi-story building, neither of which happened in this case.”
