AURORA | Two people were killed and others injured when the driver of an Audi sedan ran a red light early Sunday in Aurora, colliding with a Hyundai sedan and killing both occupants, police said.
The crash occurred at about 2:45 a.m. in the intersection of East Alameda Avenue and Airport Boulevard and three cars were involved.
Police said a woman, 37, and a girl, 15, were inside the Hyundai, westbound and crossing the intersection with a green light, when the driver of the Audi, 18, and his 16-year-old female passenger, ran through the red light at a high rate of speed, slamming into the Hyundai.
The woman and girl in the Hyundai were “pronounced dead at the scene,” by rescuers, Aurora police spokesperson Agent Matthew Wells-Longshore said in a statement.
The driver of the Audi was seriously injured during the crash and taken to a nearby hospital. The girl inside his car had minor injuries.
The driver of a third car, which was waiting in a left-turn lane at the time of the crash, also received minor injuries when one or both of the cars collided with his.
“Detectives believe speed and failure to obey the red light were contributing factors,” Wells-Longshore said. “The driver of the Audi remains hospitalized and is not in custody at this time. “
Police said Aurora police detectives are working prosecutors on potential charges in the case. The driver of the Audi will be identified when charges are decided, police said.

Audi driver not wearing seatbelts? His 16 year-old passenger was?
Whyvere the woman and 15-year-old out at 2:45 a.m. Sunday?
Wife and I try to never be driving athatime because of sleepy or drunk andruggedrivers.
We also watch for other vehicles approaching our intersection in case they make a mistake and run their red signal.
They were working, delivering newspapers. I saw them every morning around 1am at work. This is the saddest thing I’ve heard about in awhile, they were really good people.
Condolences to the victims’ family.
A 16-year old driving illegally after midnight and killing people? How does this NOT warrant criminal child-neglect charges against his parents? Throw the book at them– HARD.
Its long past time to start holding the parents 100% for their child’s crimes if it can be proven that parental negligence directly contributed– as is the case here. Unsupervised driving at 2:45 a.m. at only 16. This should be FELONY CHILD ABUSE with mandatory prison time.
Two counts of reckless involuntary manslaughter and needs to have the book thrown at the driver and his passenger. They shouldn’t be able to see freedom with a maximum sentence of 12 years (6 years per count). After that, they shouldn’t be allowed to ever operate a motor vehicle.
They were good people, I saw them every morning around 1am at work. This hurt to hear about
