AURORA | Aurora Community School officials say they’ve found a location for the new charter school in the Aurora Public Schools district and plan to open in August 2019.
School leaders signed a building lease recently near the intersection of East Sixth Avenue and East Centretech Parkway, said co-principal Meredith Stolte.
ACS will eventually offer kindergarten through eighth-grade education but will begin by offering a kindergarten class and first, second and sixth grades next year. The school focuses on not just academics, but also providing social services for students and their families, including food pantries and mental health professionals such as social workers, therapists and counselors, according to school officials.
The school is working on partnerships with local organizations such as the Food Bank Of The Rockies to help provide food for struggling students and families.
Two other charter schools will open in Aurora Public Schools in August: Denver School of Science and Technology’s first Aurora campus, Aurora Science & Tech, and the Empower Community School.
