AURORA | Police are looking for two assault rifles, a pistol and a bullet-resistant vest stolen from two Adams County sheriff’s vehicles parked in Aurora.

The theft happened sometime between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday, police said. The two unmarked sheriff’s vehicles were parked at a home in the Sorrel Ranch subdivision in southeast Aurora.

According to the Adams County sheriff’s office, the items stolen were: a Colt M-4 Commando .223 caliber rifle, a Colt AR-15 .223 Caliber rifle, a .40 caliber Glock pistol and a bullet resistant vest.

Aurora police spokesman Officer Frank Fania said the two vehicles weren’t parked in a garage, but it’s not clear if they were parked in a driveway or in the street.

Investigators have talked to neighbors but no witnesses reported seeing anything suspicious, Fania said.

Adams County sheriff’s office Sgt. Terrance O’Neill, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said the sheriff’s office is conducting an internal investigation of the thefts.

Police are asking anyone with information about the thefts to call Crimestoppers at 720-913-STOP.

  1. Makes me wonder why they were parked in a residential neighborhood over night?
It also reminds me that wherever you go in Aurora, no matter who you are, it’s a matter of time before you become a victim of crime.
