Professional rodeo rides, hypnotists, tractor pulls, motorcycle stunt shows and a demolition derby.

That’s just a small sample of the entertainment available at this year’s Arapahoe County Fair, which will take place July 26, 27, 28 and 29 at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds, 25690 East Quincy Ave. General admission to the event is free on Thursday, and $10 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

As in past years, the fair will combine traditional events like rodeos and tractor pulls with family-friendly entertainment. That includes a full carnival and midway games (a daily unlimited carnival ride pass is available for an additional $25), a petting zoo sponsored by Royal Crest Dairy and organized by the Elk Creek 4-H Club in Strasburg and a Wild West Show geared toward young fairgoers.

For adults, the Colorado’s Demolition Derby Racing Association’s all-amateur derby on July 29 will feature drivers aged 16 years and older crashing and careening in cars of all sorts. The winning title will go to the last car still standing.

The more lighthearted Fido 500 Mini Dog Race, sponsored by Sam’s Club, will feature canine from 12 different countries of origin and five continents racing in events throughout the weekend. On Saturday, the Colorado Regulator’s Cowboy Mounted Shooters contest will feature competitors on horseback making their way through challenging courses and shooting at balloons. Due to the fire ban implemented by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, the fireworks display originally scheduled for the final days of the fair has been canceled.

General admission of $10 includes parking, petting zoo access and admission to events like the rodeo, the demolition derby, the dog show, the trout fishing event, the 4-H exhibits, the junior livestock auction and several concerts and stage shows taking place throughout the event.
