AURORA | An Arapahoe County jail deputy was fired Tuesday and arrested following an investigation into allegations of inappropriate conduct involving a female inmate, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said.

Former Deputy Kevin Lacy

Former Deputy Kevin Lacy was terminated from his position after the sheriff officials completed criminal and administrative investigations into the inmate’s complaints, according to a sheriff department statement.

Sheriff officials did not release details of the allegations, citing the ongoing criminal investigation and the privacy of those involved.

The department said it began investigating Sept. 25 when officials learned of the allegations. Lacy was not working after the claims were reported and was placed on paid administrative leave Sept. 28.

“The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office takes allegations of misconduct seriously,” Sheriff Tyler Brown said in a statement. “When allegations are brought to our attention, we investigate them thoroughly and take appropriate action.”

The case has been submitted to the 18th Judicial District Attorney office, which will independently review evidence and determine whether to formally file criminal charges, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

“Deputy Lacy’s conduct does not reflect the character, integrity or professional standards of this agency,” Brown said.

The female inmate was transferred to a jail in another jurisdiction to avoid what Arapahoe County officials said could be a potential conflict of interest involving her continued detention at the Arapahoe County jail, officials said.
