Sheriff’s office officials late Wednesday said that 55-year-old Bill Foreman, Jr., was the deputy involved in the crash. A 25-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, Foreman had to be extricated from his vehicle after a crash in the 8300 block of East Iliff Avenue just before 6 a.m. Feb. 10. He was then transported to The Medical Center of Aurora.

“We are providing all of the support we can at this difficult time to Deputy Foreman’s family, as well as our staff,” said Sheriff Dave Walcher in a news release. “His condition remains critical, but we are confident that he is getting the best care possible and we are thankful to the staff at the Medical Center of Aurora for their life-saving efforts. Seconds mattered, and we are grateful for the fast work of the personnel from the Cunningham Fire Department, Aurora Fire Department and Falck Ambulance.  They worked to free Deputy Foreman from his vehicle and provided life-saving efforts while he was being transported to the hospital.”

Sheriff’s officials said the deputy’s family has requested privacy for the time being.

In the release, the sheriff’s office thanked the Colorado State Patrol — which is investigating the crash — and the Aurora Police Department, “not only for the assistance of their officers at the crash scene, but also for the presence of their Trauma Response Team at the hospital.”

According to sheriff’s office spokeswoman Julie Brooks, Foreman was driving en route to the scene of a reported sexual assault at 7540 E. Harvard Ave. at the time of the crash. Upon arrival, other officers found a dead 6-year-old boy and his father — both of whom have not been identified at this time — with self-inflicted stab wounds. The 911 call originally came after a woman in the home ran to her neighbor, saying she had been raped. A 2-year-old in the home was found unharmed.

The sexual assault and homicide are being investigated separately.
