AURORA | Three men have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman in Aurora that culminated in a chase across snowy streets in a moving van.

Police responded at about 3 a.m. March 15 to a north-central Aurora condo complex on the 14600 block of East Second Avenue to investigate reports of a shooting, police spokesperson Joe Moylan said in a statement.

Once there, police located a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.

“Officers performed life-saving actions, but the woman died at the scene from her injuries,” police said. On Wednesday, the Arapahoe County Coroner Office identified the woman as 24-year-old Theresa Burke.

“Three suspects sped away from the scene in a moving truck,” Moylan said. “Officers were involved in a pursuit that ended near E470 and Pena Boulevard when the truck became stuck in the snow.”

Police said three men inside the truck attempted to run but were captured and detained by police “without further incident.”

“One of the suspects, Cameron Mooty, 31, also sustained a gunshot wound during the incident,” Moylan said. “It’s unclear when Mooty was shot, but it was not during his contact with officers.”

Mooty was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Two others, Stephan Cherry, 32, and Corey Allen, 26, were arrested and face charges of second-degree murder. Both men were also wanted on outstanding felony warrants.

“Mooty also will be booked for second-degree murder upon his release from the hospital,” Moylan said.

Police said they were granted a warrant to search the moving truck and seized “several firearms” considered evidence in the case.

Police said anyone with information can call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, police said.
