AURORA | An Aurora police gang intervention unit on patrol before Thanksgiving came across a dispute among armed men that resulted in their arrest on previous warrants and confiscating a bevy of weaponry.

Police said the officers were patrolling Nov. 26 at about 8:30 p.m. along the 800 block of South Havana Street when they saw two men in a parking lot arguing, one of them armed with a handgun.

“After the altercation, the armed man entered a white Jeep with an expired temporary registration and left the scene with two other men and a woman,” Aurora police spokesperson Joe Moylan said in a statement.

The gang-unit officers followed the Jeep a short distance and then pulled over the driver.

“During the preliminary investigation, officers determined all three men had active felony warrants for their arrest and were taken into custody,” Moylan said. “The woman, who was driving, also was detained and later released at the scene after being cleared through state and national criminal databases.”

When officers searched the Jeep, they found three handguns, one a .40-caliber gun and another a .45-caliber handgun. In addition, police found extended ammunition magazines, one capable of holding 50 rounds, police said.

Such high-capacity magazines are illegal in Colorado.

Investigators said one of the guns was reported as stolen, Moylan said.

All three men were arrested on outstanding warrants and now face weapons charges.

Isaiah Lamond Hughes, 22, Denver, was arrested on two felony warrants out of Denver for attempted second-degree strangulation and second-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft. Hughes now faces charges related to the Aurora traffic stop, including possession of a weapon by a previous offender, and possession of an illegal magazine.

Raheim Pure Kyser, 23, Denver, was arrested in connection with two active warrants, including a robbery warrant out of Douglas County and an Arapahoe County warrant for a parole violation.

Adonai Madimba Kalala, 22, Denver, was booked on two warrants out of Arapahoe County for obstructing medical personnel and obstructing a telephone service.

Details on those cases involving warrants were not immediately available.

  1. Thank you APD for getting these scum off our streets. Great work!! Please lock them up and throw away the keys!

Now, Trump-eters, this is the real gang problem Aurora is being faced with; not the Venezuelan gang influx Council-woman Jurinsky is crying wolf about.

  2. Did you see those high-capacity magazines? So much for the high-capacity magazine ban keeping us safe. Colorado’s gun control laws only make it easier for criminals to have the upper hand on the law-abiding public.

    1. The high-capacity magazine ban is a joke, just like any weapons ban would be. Those who want them will get them and it’s not that difficult. The idiot legislators at the Capitol will never figure this out.

  3. Thank you, Aurora police officers, for noticing the weapon and arresting everyone with warrants for their arrest.
Suspecthathe woman driver is also a criminal but no proof.
