AURORA | Authorities say two people were killed early Tuesday when an SUV rear-ended a car, sending it head-on into  a pickup truck in northeast Aurora.

Police say the SUV rear-ended a sedan on Tower Road between Montview Avenue and Smith Road at about 2 a.m. The collision pushed the car into oncoming traffic,  and it collided head-on with the pickup.

Police Sgt. William Revelle says a woman driving the car and a man driving the pickup truck were killed.

Revelle says the driver of the SUV survived and was taken to a hospital. His condition wasn’t immediately available.

No names have been released. Police said parts of the road will be closed during Tuesday morning rush hour as officers investigate the crash.

Investigators say alcohol and excessive speed could have been factors in the crash. This is the third fatal crash in Aurora in less than a week.
