AURORA | A 16-year-old girl was fatally shot Tuesday morning after what police described as a home invasion at the girl’s apartment in west-central Aurora.
Officers were called to a Village East neighborhood apartment complex in the 10600 block of East Jewell Avenue at about 6:15 a.m. after reports of a home invasion and shooting, according to Aurora police spokesperson Joe Moylan.
“When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 16-year-old girl with an apparent gunshot wound,” Moylan said.
The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries, according to police.
“There is no suspect information at this time,” Moylan said. The girl’s identity will be released by coroner officials.

How long do we have to continue to sit on our hands while violent criminals take over Aurora. What are the police doing, stepping up traffic enforcement? This city is a complete joke. Every day people are getting shot in Aurora. Can’t wait to get out of here.
If I were that much of a coward that I shot a 16-year-old girl, I would have to rid the world of the likes of me.
Hope the cowards are caught.
Thank you, everyone involved, for trying to save the girl’s life.
Our hearts are with the parents and relatives and friends.
