AURORA | An unidentified 16-year-old boy was shot and killed Friday afternoon in the Heather Ridge area in central Aurora, according to Aurora police.

Police said they were called to 12700 East Asbury Circle block of East Asbury Circle at about 2:30 p.m. to investigate reports of a shooting.

“Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound,” police said. He was taken to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead from his injuries.

“At this early stage in the investigation, the facts and circumstances that led up to this death, to include suspect descriptions, are still being determined,” Officer Francisco Saucedo said in a statement..

Police did not release any details about the shooter or what led to the shooting.

The slain boy’s name will be released by the Arapahoe County coroners’s office at a future date.

Police said this is the eighth homicide in Aurora in 2022.
