AURORA | Police have arrested an unidentified 16-year-old boy in connection with a fatal shooting March 23 at an east-Aurora rental hall.

“Videos and witness testimony from the event greatly helped identify the suspect,” police said Friday in a social media post. The boy was not identified because he is a minor.

What was described by police as a “large party” at the Victory Grange events center, 2025 Tower Road turned deadly when shooting broke out late in the evening, killing a 19-year-old man and injuring another, police said.

The shooting was reported at about 11:30 p.m.

“Officers arrived to a large party of people including juveniles and young adults,” police spokesperson Sydney Edwards said in a statement. “They found one individual suffering from a gunshot wound inside the building. That individual was a 19-year-old male who was transported to the hospital where he later passed away from his injuries.”

Police then discovered a second shooting victim, an adult male, suffering from a  “non-life-threatening” gunshot wound. That man was treated and released from a local hospital.

“An argument broke out between individuals who are known to each other” Edwards said. “The argument escalated to a shooting.”

People fled to the parking lot after the shooting.

“Additional shots were fired throughout the parking lot,” police said, however no one else was reported injured.

The Adams County coroner will identify the slain man.

Police said anyone with information can call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, police said.

  1. A weekend “large party” you say. There is a large party there every weekend, this particular night was nothing special. At one time this was a place where eastern Adams county farmers would peacefully meet to promote the economic and political well-being of the community and agriculture. They had one building out there everyone would meet up in. Now things are different – A lot different. It’s cantina loca, an unregulated restaurant and food truck operation. CARNITAS ESTILO MICHOACAN with their newly built building. Did the city follow up with their proper licensing and permitting? Of course not, what else is new in Aurora? Did the city inspectors go out to look at plans for the building construction of the new structure. Check set-backs, check water service. Any fire protection for the cooking equipment. No way, this is another example where the city is negligent, and how they like to roll. Will the city look and pay attention at getting the food business and its buildings into compliance? Even after all this, it’s doubtful the city will bother to do much, if anything.

  2. Proof times do change, used to be friendly place to meet. Now, heading towards a place for the weekly shoot-out.
