The caller to the Aurora Sentinel was quite insistent.

“I want to take my girlfriend to the best restaurant in Aurora? Where should we go?”

I answered with another question: “How much do you want to spend?”

“About $30 each,” he said.

What kinds of food do you like?

“I like meat. You know, American food. She likes weirder stuff.”

“How weird?” I asked.

“Man, she eats sushi and strange Chinese food,” he said.

“Well, where did you eat the last time you went out?” I asked.

“I think it was Outback Steak House,” he said.

“How about something new, like Filipino or Thai?” I suggested.

“No way. I won’t touch that stuff,” he said.

“Maybe you should just stick with a nice Italian or Mexican place?” I interjected.

“She really doesn’t like spicy stuff,” he said.

“I have an idea? Why don’t you ask her where she wants to eat?” I said.

“Yeah, sure, I’ll check with her,” he said.

“By the way , what’s the occasion?” I asked.

“Oh, I’m going to propose. Thanks for the help,” he said.

The caller e-mailed me a few days later.

“I asked her and we went to a sushi place. She said ‘Yes’”

Smart man, I thought. Sometimes finding the best restaurant isn’t a tough question.
