AURORA | Politicians hitting the links helped raise more than $22,000 for children’s mental health programs this year.
Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan joined with the Aurora Vistas Foundation, Aurora Mental Health Center and representatives from Arvada and Sheridan Friday morning, March 25, at Aurora City Hall as $22,750 in grant funding was presented for children’s mental health programs in the three cities.
Hogan said the money from the grants would would fun 17 children’s programs at Aurora Mental Health. Those programs include services for refugee children and a new poetry-based summer program for kids, according to Aurora Mental Health staff.
The funding was raised through the Aurora Vistas Foundation Mayor’s Cup Classic golf tournament, which is in its third year. Mayor Hogan challenged other local mayors to play in the tournament to benefit their local mental health centers. Arvada Mayor Marc Williams and Sheridan Mayor Dallas Hall both took up Hogan’s challenge.
Both Jefferson Center for Mental Health and the Arapahoe/Douglas Network will have $2,500 grants available because of Williams’ and Hall’s participation.
The next Mayor’s Cup Classic tournament is slated for Aug. 22 at Murphy Creek Golf Course.
