WHITING, Ind. |  The travel website TripAdvisor has included a northwestern Indiana festival on its list of 10 bizarre festivities.

Pierogi Fest will be held in the Lake County city of Whiting later this month for the 19th year. Chamber of Commerce president and festival chairman Tom Dabertin tells The Times of Munster (https://bit.ly/18argTq ) about 275,000 people are expected to attend the event.

The festival celebrates, and pokes fun at, the region’s cultural heritage and home-cooked food. This year’s festival is scheduled for July 26-28.

Pierogi Fest is expected to have more than 70 food vendors, 100 arts and crafts booths, 20 specialty vendors and 50 parade displays.
