RENO, Nev. | New budget figures show the government spent less than 1 percent of its wild horse management budget on contraception programs and more than 60 percent on mustang holding facilities last year.

That’s despite a pledge by the Bureau of Land Management to step up use of fertility control as an alternative to roundups of overpopulated mustang herds on U.S. rangelands.

Suzanne Roy of the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign says the BLM has reneged on a commitment to use fertility control to keep herds in check.

She says the administration appears to be creating a crisis to justify horse slaughter as the only solution to the skyrocketing costs of horse management.

BLM spokesman Tom Gorey says the agency opposes slaughter. He called the criticism “anti-BLM propaganda.”

  1. what The BLM claims And What They Suggest At Their Meetings Are totally the Opposite. We All Know That They Lie And Figure If They Repeat The Lies They Will Be Believed. we Aren’t StUpid. they Have Already Shown That They Don’t Know The Difference Between The Front End Of A Horse And The Back End Of A Cow. They Have Brought Slaughter To The Table More Than Once. They Have Snuck Horses Out The Back Door To Slaughter And They Have Sent Horses To Contractors Who Can’t Account FOr The Whereabouts Of Large Numbers Of Them… No, We Are Not As Stupid As They Think. It’s High Time That They Are Exposed For What They Are, pathelogical Liars! They Could Be Disbanded Because They Are Not Managing Or Protecting The Wild horses Or Burros.. They Are Destroying Them.
