Now that the Denver Broncos are a distant memory and Tom Brady is on his way to yet another Super Bowl, there’s really no better way to lament the most recent football season in this very-football town than with several toasty brews at Denver’s Mile High Station. This annual event celebrates craft beverages from around Colorado and other U.S. microbrews (Aurora brew slingers Mu Brewery will be there both days) with a backdrop featuring live, local music, food and vendors. But, mostly, beer. Just good ol’ fashioned beer, folks. And following the holidays, who couldn’t use an oat soda or three?

Whether or not you were one of some 200,000 people who marched on Denver last weekend, the Aurora History Museum is offering another chance to honor local women this weekend with a nature walk and a preceding discussion about several new inductees tot the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame. The newest exhibit at the museum, called “Celebrating Colorado: Women in STEM,” features vignettes of 28 inductees to the state’s Women’s Hall of Fame who have influenced the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). City staff will lead a discussion about a few of those women before the nature walk on Saturday. Following the discussion, Aurora Natural Resource Specialist Joy Thompson will lead attendees of the free event on a walk around DeLaney Farm Historic Site and Open Space.

When looking through old reporters notebooks, it often looks as if there is some Chinese calligraphy tossed in there, wedged between margins with arrows and diagrams pointing every which way. But, that’s just a few decades of practicing very, very poor English penmanship. To our third grade teachers: “We’re sorry. Sort of.” To combat those horrendous etchings sometimes referred to as “notes,” check out some very legitimate and very beautiful work by several renowned Chinese calligraphers at the Aurora Central Library this weekend. Organized by the Rocky Mountain Chinese Calligraphy Association, the Community College of Denver Confucius Institute and the Chinese American Post, the exhibit features a slew of works through Jan. 28. There will also be a lecture on calligraphy at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28. Visit the Facebook event page “The Beauty of Chinese Characters Exhibition” for more information.
