Details: Matthew Buckstein has parlayed an appearance on “American Idol” to a solid niche in the local music scene, offering audiences a blend of country vocals, rock instrumentation and pop cues. Along with a supporting band of five, Buckstein is slated to bring his fusion of rock and country and western to audiences at one of the city’s oldest cultural traditions.

Details: Dr. Kool takes its larger-than-life costumes and stage antics straight from the source, pulling inspiration from the high-profile disco bands of the late 1970s. The band’s set at the Southlands shopping center is set to include covers by bands like the Bee Gees and Kool and the Gang, as well as other radio hits from the era of disco balls and “Saturday Night Fever.”

Information: The members of the Greencards hail from across the globe, but their musical output is solidly rooted in the musical traditions of America. Singer and bassist Carol Young and multi-instrumentalist Kym Warner may have roots in Australia, but their music hearkens back to roots artists like the Carter Family and Woody Guthrie. The duo are set to lead their unique paean to bluegrass and Americana in the intimate setting of the Soiled Dove Underground.

Details: The Dirty Dozen Brass Band adds a lush quality to the basic R&B, jazz and rock foundations it pays homage to in its work. The New Orleans ensemble is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary with a live tour in support of “Twenty Dozen,” an album that tracks the storied history and artistic evolution of the band. The group’s live show is set to be raucous and energetic, as the group brings a taste of the Treme neighborhood to East Colfax.

Details: The Aurora Fox theater will host the visiting Backstage Theatre Company for “Leading Ladies,” a gender-bending comedy that features old-fashioned slapstick and confusion in a story centered around two out-of-work actors posing as females in a plot to inherit a small fortune.
