Some people have an idea that clay work is nothing more than making vases Demi Moore–Patrick Swayze style.

There’s no stopping people from doing that but the most respected clay works involve intricate, large pieces. Niza Knoll Gallery will be exhibiting Atelier Durst. Atelier, the French word for an artist’s studio, upholds the old practice of artists taking on apprentices to train in the arts. Hand–built, lay works by sculptor Peter Durst and students will be displayed.

Gallery is open Wed.–Fri., 1 P.M. to 5 P.M. and Sat., 1 P.M. to 4 P.M., July 19 to Sept. 21. Artist reception 5 P.M. to 8 P.M., Aug. 23. Niza Knoll Gallery, 915 Santa Fe Drive. Nizaknollgallery.com. 303-953-1789.
