AURORA | David LeVesque might be something of a rarity on today’s craft beer scene.
While the owner of Launch Pad Brewing Co. in Aurora clearly loves all things sudsy, he doesn’t share the same adoration for over-the-top hops that many modern beer lovers do.
“I’m not a hop head,” LeVesque said.
Still, while his love of Belgian brews trumps his fondness for IPAs, LeVesque isn’t leery of dabbling in that ever-popular ale from time to time.
This week Launch Pad unveiled their Gyroscope IPA, a collaboration between LeVesque and Scott Burton of Clockwork Brewing Co.
LeVesque said that while he favors midwest-style pale ales, Burton is more of a West Coast-style IPA fan, so they tried to meet in the middle with a beer that uses challenger hops.
The finished product is a 7.1-percent ABV brew with 71 IBU.
Launch Pad made about five kegs of Gyroscope, and LeVesque said he hopes that will last about a month and a half.
But, in just the first few days, about 90 percent of the customers were hop heads looking to try a new IPA, so it could go faster than that.
Mu Brewery is again lending some help to their north Aurora neighbors at Brent’s Place. Tonight from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. the East Colfax Avenue brewery is hosting a beer and cheese sampling with Haystack Mountain Goat Dairy. It’s $25 per person, and that includes six beer samplers paired with the dairy’s cheese, and proceeds go to Brent’s Place, which helps families of cancer patients. Mu also is holding a toy and fundraising drive for the nonprofit.
Copper Kettle Brewing Co. is releasing their Czech Pilsner today, a hoppy, dry brew.
At Dry Dock Brewing Co., the Double Vanilla Porter is on tap at South Dock.
And Coda Brewing Co.’s Agnes, a Brett Saison made with Rooibos Tea, is now on tap.
