AURORA | Staff at The Brew Hut have never been strangers to teaching home brewers some of the finer points of beer making.

But that often meant beer-making operations set up in the back parking lot, where the weather didn’t always cooperate.

In the coming weeks, that won’t be an issue.

The beer- and wine-making supply shop adjacent to Dry Dock Brewing Co.’s South Dock at East Hampden Avenue and South Chambers Road is expanding and adding a dedicated classroom space with a test kitchen.

“This is going to make a big difference,” Jeff Jameson, manager at The Brew Hut, said as crews worked on the new space Thursday morning.

The construction should be complete within a couple weeks, Jameson said. The first class in the new space is set for May 7.

Jameson said the store will likely offer about three or four classes per month on a variety of topics. Anyone interested can sign up at threbrewhut.com.

The classes won’t be limited to beer or wine making, either.

Mark Hurley, assistant manager of education and events at Brew Hut, said they will offer cheese-making classes and even have plans to bring a bee keeper in.

“We want to keep this DIY thing going for other events as well,” he said.

The store expanded into the storefront to the west, which Jameson said added about 30 percent more space to the shop.

In addition to giving them space for the classroom and kitchen, Jameson said the added square footage will let them add some products, including some new automated beer-making machines.

Launch Pad Brewery is set to host a crawfish boil April 16 presented by the Starkovich Law Firm in Denver. The event, which runs from 3 to 8 p.m., is $25 per person and organizers recommend you RSVP by April 13.

April is a big month for craft beer anniversaries. At Copper Kettle Brewing Co., they turn five this month, and Comrade Brewing Co. turns two. We will have more on both anniversaries and the special events planned to celebrate in the coming weeks.
