DENVER | The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment says 13 people have been diagnosed with the human West Nile virus this year and one person has died.
The health department says people, animals and mosquito pools have tested positive in 14 counties on the eastern and western slopes. Details on the person who died have not been released.
Last year, 101 people in Colorado contracted West Nile virus, and three died.
Initial human symptoms of West Nile virus can include fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, muscle aches, weakness and rash. More severe symptoms can include stupor, disorientation, coma, tremors, vision loss and paralysis.
