AURORA | Seven people were displaced Friday afternoon after a fast-moving yard-and-house fire in east Aurora spread to a neighboring home, authorities said.

Aurora 911 received multiple calls at about 3:30 p.m. reporting a house and yard in the 16000 block of East Asbury Avenue were on fire.

“As crews were responding to the scene, a large plume of black smoke was highly visible throughout the area,” Aurora Fire and Rescue spokesperson Eric Hurst said in a statement.

When rescuers arrived, they discovered flames coming from the front of the house, burning vegetation in the front yard had spread to a fence, a boat and the neighbor’s house.

“Firefighters launched an initial attack and soon discovered the blaze had extended into the attic,” Hurst said.

Rescuers searched both homes and found no one inside either house.

The blaze was brought under control in about 20 minutes, Hurst said.

No injuries from the fire were reported, however seven people from both of the homes were displaced because of either fire or smoke damage to both homes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.
