AURORA | Police are investigating the death of a man found shot while inside of his Aurora apartment Tuesday evening as a homicide and say they are working to compile a description of the person responsible.

Aurora Police Department officers responded to the apartment complex in the 12600 block of East Pacific Circle at about 9:30 p.m. to do a welfare check, after a neighbor reported the door to the victim’s apartment had been left open, according to a news release and APD spokesman Joe Moylan.

When police arrived at the apartment, they saw the open door and noticed the lights inside were on. After calling out and hearing no response, officers entered and found the 46-year-old victim, who had been shot once. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office, police said.

Though the news release said the man was discovered by police Thursday evening, Moylan said the department could not disclose when the shooting itself may have taken place.

The release said police do not have any information about the shooter but that investigators believe the homicide was “not random.” APD encourages members of the public with information about the shooting to contact 720-913-7867.
