AURORA | An Aurora teen faces manslaughter charges after fatally shooting his friend Sunday night while taking apart a handgun, according to police.

The shooting occurred at about 10:45 p.m. during a house party in the 1700 block of Fulton Street, police said in a statement.

One 17-year-old boy was demonstrating how to disassemble his handgun, while a second boy, also 17, followed along, disassembling another handgun. The second boy’s gun went off, striking the boy who was giving the demonstration in the chest.

Police arrived first and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the victim until Aurora Fire Rescue paramedics took over. The shooting victim was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The suspected shooter was arrested. Police said the boy faces charges of felony manslaughter and unlawful possession of a handgun by a juvenile. Because the suspect is a minor being charged in juvenile court, police declined to release his name.

The victim will be identified by the Adams County Coroner’s Office, according to police.

  1. Loaded guns and teens?!?! A house party on a school night?!?! Disgusting. Please tell me they will charge the parents for negligence and much more.

    1. I guess your thinking is that if it’s good enough to post once, it’s good enough to post twice. Or three times.

  2. The 17-year-old “teacher” was responsible for his own death.
Should have known to check the weapon before handing ito the other boy.
And taughthe other boy how to always check a weapon handed to him for a round in the chamber.
Thehow to ejecthe round withe muzzle pointed safely away.
Then how to disassemble the weapon.

  3. If you’re old enough to play around with a handgun and end up committing a murder you should be identified no matter the age. Stop giving these juveniles privacy rights.

    1. He did not commit murder.
17-year-old lacked the intelligence to never allow the weapon’s muzzle to point at anyone. Lacked the sense to treat every weapon as though loaded.
Lacked the sense to not handle a weapon if he does not knowhat he is doing.

  4. Loaded guns and teens and a party?!? I hope the parents and hosts all face criminal charges.

  5. The “teacher” is responsible for his own death.
Should have noticed thathe other boy did not knowhat he was doing.
“Teacher” should not have allowed any muzzles to be pointed at anyone.
Should have checked that all weapons were unloaded.
(When I am handed a weapon, withe barrel pointed away from anyone, I check that it is unloaded myself.)
