AURORA | Aurora police have arrested a 26-year-old woman accused of shooting an injuring the father of her unborn child near Lowry Park last week.
Investigators on April 21 announced the arrest of Lutisia Jones in connection with the shooting near a residence at 1184 Clinton Street. Jones has been charged in court under the name Latisia Hunter.
The shooting occurred at 10:54 p.m. April 20, and Hunter was arrested a short time later, records show.
Court documents released Monday revealed that Hunter is accused of shooting her 26-year-old boyfriend of about five months through his bedroom window after the couple got into an argument.
In an arrest affidavit filed against Hunter, police allege that she used a silver revolver to shoot her boyfriend in the arm after becoming angry when another woman called him on the phone. Hunter also made statements to police about wanting to see her children from another relationship in New Mexico, and her current boyfriend abusing her.
Police found Hunter in a car parked outside of the house where the shooting occurred by following a trail of blood, according to the arrest document. In the car, investigators found a revolver with several spent shell casings and “an AR style rifle,” according to the affidavit.
After initially refusing to talk to police, Hunter eventually admitted to shooting her boyfriend during the argument. She later said that she and her boyfriend had initially planned to get married earlier that day and that she was pregnant with her boyfriend’s child.
Hunter indicated she had planned to die by “suicide by cop,” or intentionally provoke police to shoot her by firing her rifle in front of officers, according to the arrest record. She later told police several times: “I f***ed up.”
Police recommended charging hunter with attempted first-degree murder, assault, menacing and a domestic violence charge. The man Hunter is accused of shooting sustained seriously bodily injury to his arm, though he is expected to survive, according to police.
Hunter is being held at the Arapahoe County jail on a general murder charge under the name Lutisia Hallie Hunter, records show.
She’s being held on a $100,000 cash or surety bond and was slated to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. April 27. Prosecutors were expected to announce their criminal charges in response to those recommended by police at the proceeding.
