Editor: My liberal father told me: “Whatever you do, remember who you are.” He embodied his own advice to show respect to all people; act with integrity; and always, always guard one’s honor.
I highly respected my now-retired conservative co-workers – good friends – because we shared my dad’s deep understanding of honor and integrity. They kept their own counsel, cautious to accept whatever new philosophy was being marketed. I sensed that they were in fact patriots, and took their Christian faith seriously.
The new generation of “conservatives” have traded in their parent’s honor for a new creed boasting hatred, violence, and entitlement. Their disloyalty to our nation is painful to witness. They celebrate beating and killing policemen, murdering unarmed civilians, and anti-American propaganda of foreign dictators. They are definitely not patriots – they desecrate our sacred institutions and rig elections with new laws.
Where have my friends gone?

The conservative majority passes camping ban to go into effect in 30 days BUT: no new plan yet to help with services and housing for all those people pushed further into the shadows and that type of plan needs a lot of input and help, possibly more hirings and looking at funding and expert involvement across the Aurora community. This new council has not a clue what putting a plan like that to provide more services and housing involves…NOT A CLUE. In addition, the Council added that belongings taken from those living there when the sweeps come will be housed for a certain time, but also have no plan yet for that, and also have not a clue. These people do not have transportation, and a lot of service needs and just warehousing their items somewhere far away is pretty meaningless. There should be arrangements to help them retrieve their stuff ( you have no idea how much that stuff means and how hard it is for them to get it), give them bus passes too, and have a group of social workers/outreach workers help them with this. How are they supposed to get the stuff from some warehouse back to wherever they’ve now been pushed to – some darker corner? I’ve been in the trenches in Denver when all this was going on, helping women and children experiencing homelessness and poverty and the trauma of all this camping ban/sweeps trauma, and this is a FIASCO that’s all about criminalizing homelessness and keeping Coffman’s name out their for his next campaign. So ashamed to be part of Aurora right now.
I’m not a conservative, but I definitely agree with your assessment. Even our Aurora City Council is part of that decline in integrity.
