LETTER: A plea to vote ‘yes’ on Prop. 115

Editor: I write this letter to urge my fellow Coloradoans, regardless of party affiliation, to vote YES on Proposition 115, the initiative to restrict abortions after 22 weeks.

Our state is one of six other states that allow late term abortion, which puts us in line with China, North Korea and Vietnam, blatant human rights abusers. By adopting words like “reproductive health,” “my body my choice” and even the term fetus instead of child, we have been desensitized to the barbarity of abortion, the destruction of a fully alive, fully human person. A child in the womb is flesh and blood, not a child to be poisoned or dismembered, thrown away like trash.

Abortion is not birth control nor should it be the remedy for a lapse in judgment. At 22 weeks, a child reacts to its mother’s voice, smiles, sucks his or her thumb and can even acquire tastes for food. Proposition 115 does not criminalize the woman who has an abortion. Instead of protecting the deadly choice of late term abortion, let us put our efforts in supporting programs that assist women with unplanned pregnancies. Studies show that the majority of Democrats, Republicans and Independents oppose late term abortions. Let your voice be heard by your vote. I urge all citizens to stand up for the most innocent and vulnerable by voting YES on Proposition 115.
