AURORA | This week Aurora City Council decided against updating an ordinance that limits parking a motorhome on a street for more than five days. The proposed change would have limited parking a camper on the street for 72 hours.
“Some individuals have avoided ticketing and prosecution under this law by moving their motorhomes or trailers every five days to another portion of the public right-of-way,” according to city documents. “The intent of the law is to avoid long-term motorhome or camper trailer parking on the public right-of way. This intent is thwarted when individuals simply move their motorhome or camper trailer to a different location on the public right-of-way.”
Councilman Charlie Richardson brought the update to committee in November. But council members ultimately decided Monday night that tightening up the ordinance wouldn’t solve the parking problem, but would just encourage people to move their camper to a private parking lot for a few days, as they are already doing.
