AURORA | Investigators with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office on Friday charged a 17-year-old boy with second-degree murder for the shooting death of an 18-year-old Cherokee Trail High School student May 8.
Officials with the local sheriff’s office had detained the 17-year-old suspect, who has not been identified because he is a juvenile, yesterday.
Investigators said yesterday that an unidentified 18-year-old Cherry Creek School District student was fatally shot at about 9:30 p.m. May 8 in the 21500 block of East Powers Lane in Centennial. He was shot outside of his home, and later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The fatal shooting was “not school related,” according to the local sheriff’s office.
The killing marked the third fatal shooting of an area teenager this week, and the fourth such slaying of a teen in Arapahoe County this year.
