DENVER | A massive sinkhole swallowed a car in Sheridan Tuesday evening as heavy rain and blustery winds pounded parts of the Front Range, including Aurora.

The Denver Post reports the sinkhole opened on West Oxford Avenue in Sheridan on Tuesday, and the driver was able to get out without the help of police. The Sheridan Police Department tweeted a photo of the sinkhole with only part of the car peeking out of the water.

Local city officials and residents reported widespread spot flooding and hail damage, including in Aurora.

The National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings as intense weather developed in northeastern Colorado. Meanwhile, another round of storms brought mudslides to an area burned by a wildfire in southwest Colorado. U.S. Highway 550 near Durango was temporarily closed Tuesday as crews cleared debris that washed onto the road.

Similar weather patterns are expected in Colorado on Wednesday.
