
AURORA | Democrat challenger Rick Reigenborn defeated Mike McIntosh, the Republican Adams County Sheriff, in a close race Tuesday night.
As of 11:55 p.m. Tuesday, Reigenborn won with 50.49 percent of the vote compared to 49.51 percent of votes for McIntosh.
The sheriff oversees several hundred employees and officers to enforce the law in unincorporated Adams County. The sheriff also oversees the Adams County Jail, which holds inmates from part of Aurora.
Reigenborn joined the Adams County Sheriff’s office in 1991 and has worked as an undercover narcotics agent, SWAT member, jail custodian, sergeant, and patrol sergeant. Reigenborn retired from the sheriff’s office in 2013 and currently works in Mountain View as a detective. He ran for sheriff in 2014.
