COLORADO SPRINGS | A person was shot and killed outside a courthouse in Colorado Springs on Thursday, authorities said, shutting down court proceedings for the day as police investigated.
One person was found dead outside the El Paso County Courthouse, and one person was taken into custody, Colorado Springs police said on X, the social media service formerly known as Twitter.
The Colorado Springs Police Department said in a statement late Thursday that the shooter and the victim knew each other, and the context of that relationship is under investigation.
“Everyone associated with this shooting is accounted for, and there remains no ongoing threat to the public,” the statement said.
Police have not released the names of those involved.
