After less than a year spent representing northern state House District 34, state Rep. Alex “Skinny” Winkler has been voted out of office.
Voters definitively chose Democrat Kyle Mullica over Winkler to represent the narrow Northglenn district along Interstate 25 on Election Day. As of 11:17 p.m., Tuesday — and with 47 percent of the counties reporting — Mullica had received 58.5 percent of the votes to 41.5 percent for Winkler.
Mullica is a registered nurse in Denver and a former Northglenn City Councilman. Originally from Thornton, Mullica also holds a finance degree from the University of Denver.
Winkler took over the seat earlier this year from embattled former Rep. Steve Lebsock, a Democrat -turned-Republican, who was expelled from the chamber in February following a spate of sexual harassment allegations. Lebsock’s removal featured a rash of fireworks, including a manifesto, a reported cover-up of the allegations by House Speaker Crisanta Duran and an 11th-hour party reversal.
Mullica received an endorsement from former President Barack Obama in his roundup of approvals for candidates in statewide and local races across the country last month.
