Shontel Lewis has won the vacant Regional Transportation District B seat, capturing the position over fellow challengers JoyAnn Keener Ruscha and Chris Martinez.

As of 9:15 p.m., Tuesday — and with 41 percent of the counties reporting — Lewis had garnered 12,909 votes (45.3%) to Martinez (9,455 votes; 33.2%) and Ruscha (6,137 votes; 21.5%).

The seat was left vacant after former RTD District B director Barbara Deadwyler stepped down at the end of her term.

If elected, Lewis said she would focus on making RTD more connected to the communities it serves; ensuring fares remain affordable and available; and keep the communities RTD serves involved in the decision-making process. Lewis is opposed to recently announced fare increases, saying they prevent access to the transit system for lower-income riders.
