YOUR NEWS | AURORA | Brett Martin has the world’s largest video game memorabilia collection in the world, as verified by the Guinness Book of World Records. His collection contains more than 8,000 objects with a focus on Nintendo mascots such as Super Mario Bros. and Zelda. On Sunday, May 19 at 1 p.m., Martin will give a talk at the Aurora History Museum about his video game collection. Admission is free.

Martin will discuss the history of video games, how he started collecting, why he believes it’s important to collect video game memorabilia, and offer examples of some of his favorite collection pieces.

Martin began actively collecting in 2001 when he discovered auctions for the items on eBay and later Japanese auctions for rare items. His very first collector’s piece, however, was a Mario figure his parents gave him in 1989.

A selection of Brett Martin’s collection, including Pac-Man, Mega Man, and Nintendo icons, is on display in the Aurora History Museum’s Growing Up Gamer: A History of Video Games exhibit.
