Aurora hoops season extended with premier A-Town All-Stars game March 26

Season highlights: Regis Jesuit coach Ken Shaw had to almost completely reload his roster from last season due to graduation and he found another group that stepped up a performed very well on the varsity level, leading the program to a 22-4 record and another trip to the Great 8 round of the Class 5A state playoffs. Along the way, the Raiders also earned Shaw his 700th career coaching victory, which ranks him third all-time in Colorado. Senior Geoff Kelly was the lone returning player with significant playing from last season for Regis Jesuit and he got a chance to put his diverse skill set on display as more of a focal point than last season, which helped him lead a well-rounded team in scoring, rebounding, assists (tied), steals and blocked shots with totals that jumped significantly in all of those categories. Kelly scored in double figures in 20 of the team’s 26 games and netted his season high of 27 points in a 71-55 win over Highlands Ranch on Feb. 5, while he stepped up big in a 60-53 Sweet 16 playoff win over Dakota Ridge with 13 points, 10 rebounds and six steals. Kelly — who verbally committed to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, where many talented Aurora players have headed in recent years — will play on Team East in the A-Town All-Star Game.

Kelly vs. Aurora teams: Grandview (18 points & 9 rebounds), Overland (13 points & 5 rebounds), Rangeview (4 points & 5 rebounds), Eaglecrest (13 points, 4 rebounds & 4 assists)
