Federal government seeks to halt the first U.S. reparations program for Black people

The US Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit to halt Evanston, Illinois’ first reparations program, which offered $25,000 to Black residents for 20th century race-based housing discrimination, calling it racially discriminatory and a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the US Constitution.
