AURORA | A look at some of the events involving Aurora winter prep sports teams scheduled for Friday, Feb. 6 or Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, as compiled by Sentinel Sports Editor Courtney Oakes:
AURORA PREPS WHAT TO WATCH, 2.6-2.7.26
BOYS BASKETBALL: A jam-packed slate for Friday night features a quality Centennial League matchup at 7 p.m. at Cherokee Trail, where the host Cougars (13-5, 3-2 in league) play host to Overland (8-10, 2-3), which dealt league-leading Grandview its first defeat Wednesday (see story on Trailblazers’ 73-66 victory). Eaglecrest (13-5, 3-2) has gained some momentum and tries to take it into a 7 p.m. visit to Mullen (11-7, 3-2). Rangeview earned head coach Shawn Palmer his 400th career victory Wednesday (see story on Palmer’s milestone win at Denver South) and makes a highly-anticipated visit to George Washington at 7 p.m. in City League play, while Regis Jesuit (11-7, 5-1 in Continental League) visits Highlands Ranch (8-10, 3-3) in a conference road contest. …Among two Saturday contests is a non-league home game for Colorado League-leading Aurora Central (9-9) against Standley Lake (11-6).
GIRLS BASKETBALL: The biggest game of Friday night’s slate is set for 7 p.m. at Regis Jesuit, where the Raiders (14-5, 5-1 in Continental League) welcome in Highlands Ranch (15-3), which owns a one-game lead atop the conference standings with Legend and Rock Canyon also in the mix. A trio of early Centennial League contests — all scheduled for 5:30 p.m. tip-offs as part of doubleheaders — all should be highly competitive, as Cherokee Trail (16-2, 4-1 and coming off an outlasting of Eaglecrest) plays host to Overland (12-6, 1-4), while Eaglecrest (14-4, 3-2) heads to Mullen (6-12, 2-3) and Smoky Hill (11-6, 1-4) makes a visit to Grandview (9-9, 3-2). …Saturday features a quality non-league matchup at 1 p.m. when Aurora Central (12-4) goes on the road to take on Standley Lake (14-2).
BOYS WRESTLING: A quiet weekend with regional tournaments ahead next week features just one dual, as Eaglecrest travels to Greeley West for a 5 p.m. match. Also on tap for 5 p.m. Friday is a home dual for Regis Jesuit against Valor Christian.
GIRLS WRESTLING: The regular season is nearly complete save for Eaglecrest’s 5 p.m. road dual at Greeley West.
GIRLS SWIMMING: With the regular season complete, league championships will be decided in the week preceding state meet with Aurora area teams spread out between three meets Friday and Saturday. Rangeview competed in City “A” League swim prelims for Class 5A teams Thursday at Manual High School and Aurora Central, Gateway and Hinkley will participate in the 3A/4A prelims at 5 p.m. Friday with the diving competition ahead for all at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by all swim finals at 2 p.m. The Continental “A” League swim prelims — which include Regis Jesuit — take place at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Heritage High School with swim finals Saturday at 2:30 p.m., while the entire diving competition takes place at 9 a.m. Saturday at Cherokee Trail High School. Cherokee Trail, Eaglecrest, Grandview, Overland and Smoky Hill head to Arapahoe for the Centennial “A” League swim prelims at 5:30 p.m. Friday with 9 a.m. Saturday diving competition followed by 2:30 p.m. swim finals.
ICE HOCKEY: The second meeting between the Cherry Creek co-op team and Regis Jesuit is slated for 6:30 p.m. Friday at Family Sports Center, where the Raiders (8-5-1) seek to avenge a 5-0 loss in the previous contest against the Bruins (11-3-1). Cherry Creek turns around to play Denver East on the same ice at 3 p.m. Saturday, while Grandview (3-11) has back-to-back contests against Chaparral (6:30 p.m. Friday at Big Bear Ice Arena) and Dakota Ridge (6:15 p.m. Saturday at Edge Ice Arena).
