MONDAY, FEB. 5: There were no varsity contests scheduled for Aurora teams.
SATURDAY, FEB. 3: The Rangeview boys basketball team held visiting Aurora Central to single digits in three of four quarters en route to a 72-31 non-league victory. Yasin Sekue and Archie Weatherspoon V tallied 13 points apiece and Elijah Denney had 10 for the Raiders, who overcame a 17-point effort from the Trojans’ Charles Laurendine II. …The Hinkley boys basketball team fell to Denver South 67-29. …The Vista PEAK Prep boys and girls wrestling teams both won the City League Championship tournaments at Denver North H.S. Jason Leadens (190 pounds) and Joseph Maes (285) won their respective brackets in the boys tournament as the Bison finished nine points in front of Northfield, while Anastasia Smith (100 pounds), Amelia Bacon (120) and Taryn Holloway (190) took crowns on the girls side. The Rangeview boys had seven top-six placers and finished eighth as a team. …The Regis Jesuit ice hockey team scored three unanswered goals after falling behind after one period on its way to a 3-1 victory over Valor Christian. Vincent Cieslak and Reece Peterson had a goal and an assist apiece and Avery Osgood also had a goal, while Easton Sparks made 31 saves.
FRIDAY, FEB. 2: Garrett Barger scored 17 points and LaDavian King added 10 as the Eaglecrest boys basketball team won a 51-33 Centennial League road game at Grandview. …The Overland boys basketball team outscored Cherokee Trail 17-9 in the fourth quarter on its way to a 61-56 Centennial League victory in which Siraaj Ali, Isreal Littleton and Aidan Perez all scored 10 points. Braylen Thomas paced the Cougars with 19, while Nathan Baack had 13. …Damarius Taylor poured in 32 points to help the Regis Jesuit boys basketball team to a 79-47 Continental League triumph over Heritage. …The Smoky Hill boys basketball team had a late lead get away in a 65-64 Centennial League home loss to Cherry Creek. …The Vista PEAK Prep boys basketball team went toe-to-toe with Northfield in a City League contest in front of a packed house before falling 80-74 in a game in which the Bison missed 17 free throw attempts. Julian Carrizales led the way for Vista PEAK Prep with 18 points, while Kyree Polk had 17, Alante Monroe-Elazier 13 and Javon Lowman 12. …The Vista PEAK Prep girls basketball team earned its 11th consecutive with a 57-40 defeat of Northfield with help from a 24-point final quarter. Eianna Jackson finished with 19 points and Amirah Pena added 14 for the City League-leading Bison. …The Cherokee Trail girls basketball team remained undefeated in Centennial League play with a 78-30 home victory against Overland behind four players in double figures in points (Aaliyah Broadus had 18, Damara Allen 14, Madeline Gibbs 13 and Karson Chaney 12). …Sienna Betts scored 17 points and was joined in double figures by Ava Chang with 11 as the Grandview girls basketball team earned a 48-27 Centennial League home win over Eaglecrest. …The Regis Jesuit girls basketball team rode the double-digit efforts of Hana Belibi (19 points), Coryn Watts (17) and Jane Rumpf (13) to a 79-27 Continental League road win at Heritage. …In the second meeting of the two local ice hockey programs, Regis Jesuit scored three times in the first and third periods en route to a 7-1 victory over the Cherry Creek co-op team. Luke Damrath, Parker Brinner and Alexander Warot scored in the opening period for the Raiders, while Reece Peterson also had a goal and two assists and Easton Sparks saved 20 of the 21 shots on goal. Austin Katz had the goal for the Bruins in the second period, while Jack Ryan (Cherokee Trail) made 25 saves.
THURSDAY, FEB. 1: The Gateway boys basketball team delighted a large home crowd with a 60-50 Colorado League victory over Thornton behind 19 points from Kaiemion Ashley and 17 from Hayden Von Boeckman. The league-leading Olys played in front of a group of alumni there to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary as well as Senior Night. An alumni game took place at halftime, which included former star athletes such as football/basketball star Zach Latimer. …The Aurora Central boys basketball team fell to Adams City 64-43 on the road. …The Aurora Central girls basketball team got outscored 10-3 in overtime of a 51-44 home loss to Adams City. …The Grandview boys wrestling team topped rival Cherokee Trail 39-31 in a Centennial League dual match in which the Wolves won eight of 14 contested matches. Jonathan Montes Gonzales (150 pounds), Gunner Lopez (157), Charlie Herting (165), Oz Nowick (215) and Leland Day (285) got max points for Grandview with wins by fall, while pins for Cherokee Trail came from Cooper Mathews (113), Chance Mathews (138), Ryan Everhart (144) and Mateo Garreffa (190). …The Eaglecrest boys wrestling team downed Smoky Hill 72-10 in its Senior Night dual match that saw pins from Ethan Diaz (120 pounds), Alijah Gabaldon (126), Damian Payan (132), Oscar Hinojos (138), Ethan Maughan (144), Dalton Leivian (190), Braden Conroy (215) and Riley Neumeyer (285) for the Raptors and Elvin Fiallos (157) for the Buffs. …The Overland boys wrestling team split 10 contested matches in a 48-32 dual win over Denver South. All wins for the Trailblazers came by fall from Apurva Adhikari (132 pounds), Asadbek Mansurov (138), Eric Kelly (157), Isvande Siyfiyev (165) and Francisco Barrera Hernandez (215). …Wins by fall from Richard Avila (120 pounds), Richard Carrier (126), Connor Mohr (132), Daniel Lantz (138), Garrett Reece (150) and Charlie Gross (215) helped the Regis Jesuit boys wrestling team to a 61-15 Continental League dual win over Mountain Vista. …The Eaglecrest girls wrestling team celebrated its Senior Night with a 78-6 Centennial League dual match win over Smoky Hill. Three matches were contested and the Raptors won two by fall from Sydney Babi (110 pounds) and Audrey Gimeno (155), while Maddie Patterson (140) picked up a pin for the Buffs.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 31: The Smoky Hill boys basketball team pulled away from Overland 69-57 in a high-flying Centennial League contest in front of a packed house. Isreal Littleton led the Trailblazers with 16 points, while Kymani Eason had 10. …The double-digit duo of Garrett Barger (14 points) and LaDavian King (11) helped the Eaglecrest boys basketball team to a low-scoring 45-33 Centennial League win over Arapahoe. …Braylen Thomas had 14 points and Jordan Mitchell 11 as the Cherokee Trail boys basketball team earned a 70-59 Centennial League road win at Mullen. …The Vista PEAK Prep boys basketball team rang up triple digits on the scoreboard in a 101-41 City League win over Lincoln. Six Bison scored in double figures, headed by James Brown III and Javon Lowman with 14 points apiece. …Archie Weatherspoon V poured in 19 points, Kevin Hernandez added 17 and Mareon Chapman chipped in 15 as the Rangeview boys basketball team rolled past Westminster 81-37 in City League play. …The Cherokee Trail girls basketball team scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to pull away from Mullen for a 49-38 Centennial League win. Damara Allen (15 points), Madeline Gibbs (11) and Karson Chaney (10) led a balanced effort for the Cougars. …Amirah Pena and Knakai Starks scored 14 points apiece and Eianna Jackson had 11 as the Vista PEAK Prep girls basketball team cruised past Lincoln 85-13 in City League play. …The Overland girls basketball team had 29 points alone in the opening quarter of a 79-25 Centennial League win over Smoky Hill. …The Rangeview girls basketball team downed Westminster 56-44 for a City League win …The Grandview girls basketball team had a lead slip away in the second half of a 36-30 Centennial League road loss at Cherry Creek. Sienna Betts scored 11 points to lead the Wolves. …The Eaglecrest girls basketball team dropped a Centennial League visit to Arapahoe 59-34 despite Jada Bobb’s nine points and eight from Kaydence Waymire.
TUESDAY, JAN. 30: Damarius Taylor’s bank shot with 2.7 seconds remaining held up to give the Regis Jesuit boys basketball team a 66-64 Continental League home win over Douglas County. Taylor finished with 19 points, while Lucas Dickinson had 21 and Eric Fiedler 12. …Hayden Von Boeckman poured in a season-high 30 points for the Gateway boys basketball team in a 72-64 Colorado League road win at Aurora Central. Maximus Matthews added 14 points for the Olys, who split with the Trojans, who got 20 from Camron Crisp, 17 from Charles Laurendine II and 14 from Christopher Perkins. …In a high-scoring Continental League contest, the Regis Jesuit girls basketball team had five double-digit scorers — Coryn Watts with 25 points, Hana Belibi with 18, Jane Rumpf with 14, Iliana Green with 13 and Mallory Neff with 11 — in a 87-48 defeat of Douglas County. …Jamaea Johnson Gonzalez had 17 points and Nijaha Davis added 12 as the Aurora Central girls basketball team downed Gateway 57-31 in Colorado League play. …The Vista PEAK Prep boys wrestling team topped Lutheran 56-17 in a dual match that saw Bryton Bender (144 pounds), Tytus Hettich (157), Zachary Voltura (165) and Joseph Maes (285) earn pins among six wins for the Bison.
