MONDAY, FEB. 2: The William Smith boys basketball team maintained its share of the 3A/2A Foothills League lead at 6-0 with a 50-19 road win at Two Roads Charter School. …Marc Brousseau needed to make just nine saves for the Regis Jesuit ice hockey team in a 4-0 matinee road win over Chatfield.Evan Michalik, Beau Paton, Sam Wessel and Christopher Wiedenmayer scored goals for the Raiders.
SATURDAY, JAN. 31: Aurora area teams won both team titles at the Centennial League Championship boys and girls wrestling tournaments at Arapahoe High School, as Grandview took the boys crown with eight bracket champions (Forrester Warnock, Dustin John Snider, JR Ortega, Braxston Widrikis, Jonathan Montes Gonzales, Gunner Lopez, Marques Lawrence and Leland Day) and Eaglecrest claimed the girls crown — winning the league for a fifth straight season — with nine weight winners of its own. …Amelia Bacon, Idaly Garcia and Khloe Yizar won their respective brackets to helped Vista PEAK Prep win the City League Championship girls wrestling title in competition at Denver South High School. …Ian Bacon of Vista PEAK Prep and Rangeview’s Biram Griffey were individual champions from Aurora area programs at the City League Championship boys wrestling tournament at Denver South High School. …The Regis Jesuit ice hockey team scored in all three periods on its way to a 6-4 road win over Ralston Valley. Will Farber and Beau Paton each tallied two goals, while Sam Wessel had a goal and assist to key the Raiders.
FRIDAY, JAN. 30: A 30-point explosion from Marceles Duncan — in addition to 25 from Archie Weatherspoon V — spurred the Rangeview boys basketball team to an 84-49 City League home win over Northfield to complete a regular season sweep. The Raiders celebrated the 10-year anniversary of their outstanding 2015-16 squad. …The Cherokee Trail boys basketball team finally shook free from Cherry Creek in the second half of a 67-50 Centennial League home win. Jeremiah Shortis tallied 25 points for the Cougars, who also got 15 from Cameron Hopkins and 14 from Caleb Jensen. …A shorthanded Eaglecrest boys basketball team came away with a 61-53 Centennial League home win at Overland that included 15 points from Demari Manns Davis plus 14 fromJayden Bradley. Mehki McNeal’s 11 points led the Trailblazers, who also got 10 from Darian Proctor. …Eric Fiedler had a team-high 21 points for the Regis Jesuit boys basketball team, which fell 58-47 at Chaparral in a Continental League road showdown. …Naomi Emecheta’s work on the offensive glass and 17 points helped combine with 21 from Kiarra Spellman for the Eaglecrest girls basketball team in a 59-41 Centennial League road win at Overland. …Tiana Rogers drained five of theRegis Jesuit girls basketball team’s nine 3-pointers on her way to 22 points in a 67-51 Continental League home win over Chaparral. Izzy Davies scored 13 points and Khloe Miller 10 for the Raiders, who won the program’s 200th game in its home gym. …The Gateway girls basketball team recorded a 14-point home win over The Pinnacle. …The Eaglecrest boys wrestling team honored its seniors during a 48-26 home dual win over Legacy. Donavon Delbridge II, Britton Matejovsky, Tayte Tahja, Nakhai Miller and Charles Swick provided pins. …Eliot Seguin scored with 30 seconds left in regulation to lift the Grandview ice hockey team to a 3-2 road win over Lewis-Palmer. Seguin scored twice, Keegan Wall also had a goal and Hunter Simons 2 assists for the Wolves.
THURSDAY, JAN. 29: In the second night of a back-to-back, the Grandview boys basketball team earned a 68-53 Centennial League road win as 12 players got in the scoring column. Noah Sevy paced the Wolves with 13 points, while Ismael Kabongo had 11. …Deon Davis Jr. contributed 22 points for the Aurora Central boys basketball team in its 54-39 Colorado League victory over Skyview. Alex Flores added 11 for the Trojans. …The Lotus School For Excellence boys basketball team rolled past Front Range Baptist 81-57. …The Hinkley boys basketball team held off Gateway to win its first game of the season, a 55-54 home triumph. Mading Miakol led the Thunder with 17 points, while Josiah Lopez added 16 and Qwamarius Lake 10. …The Grandview boys wrestling team cruised to a 62-13 dual victory over Chatfield that included pins from JR Ortega, Kyle Menuez, Anthony Segura, Braxston Widrikis, Jonathan Montes Gonzales, Gunner Lopez, Christian Skov and Leland Day. …The Cherokee Trail boys wrestling team downed visiting Poudre 69-6 in a dual that saw wins by fall from Mitchell Buck, Cooper Mathews, Owen Babcock, Renzo Lubugin, Ryan Everhart and Youdas Aghouiles. …In a crosstown matchup, the Smoky Hill boys wrestling team topped Vista PEAK Prep 45-27. The Buffaloes got pins from Jovani Galvan, Desmond Luby, DaVale Boutwell and Ty Benedict, while the Bison countered with falls from Adrian Pacheco, Denzel Womely, Gavin Fifita and Abraham Garcia. …Apurva Adhikari and Illia Filakov picked up two of the Overland boys wrestling team’s five victories with pins in a 37-35 dual win over Prairie View. …The Overland girls wrestling team did not win a single match, but received seven wins by forfeit in a 42-21 victory over Prairie View. …The Smoky Hill girls swim team honored its seniors during a 146-19 Centennial League home dual win over Overland that included a sweep of 12 events. Caroline Kaiser, Mya Noffsinger and Porter Sicheri won two events apiece to compliment a relay sweep and event wins from Cameryn Walkup and diver Lyla Bailey. …The Cherokee Trail girls swim team swept past Mullen for a 140-22 Centennial League home dual win. JJ Siah took two events and was joined by individual winners in Emir Saliger, Lily Rosh, Felicity Meijer, Grace Peterson, Rachel Williams and diver Izzy Becker.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 28: The Grandview boys basketball team fell behind by visiting Mullen by double figures at halftime, but rallied to a 51-49 victory after Noah Sevy hit a 3-pointer inside the final three seconds. Sevy’s big shot was part his 22-point outing, while Charlie Atkinson added nine for the Wolves. …Aidan Perez poured in 25 points, while Marceles Duncan and Archie Weatherspoon V each tallied 17 and Anthony Andrew and Darris Davenport Jr. went for 10 apiece as the Rangeview boys basketball team downed rival Vista PEAK Prep 85-51 in City League play. …The Cherokee Trail boys basketball team pulled away from Smoky Hill in the fourth quarter of a 66-47 Centennial League road victory fueled by a trio of players in double figures. Caleb Jensen tallied 20 points to pace the Cougars, while Jeremiah Shortis had 15 and London Moore 12, while Sebastan Montegue (18) and Daniel Boyd (10) led the Buffs. …The Regis Jesuit boys basketball team outscored visiting Legend 33-17 in the second half of a 61-47 Continental League victory as Eric Fiedler tallied 21 points and Anthony Lynett 11. …The Cherokee Trail girls basketball team used a 19-2 run in the third quarter to finally pull away from Smoky Hill and finished a 66-55 Centennial League win on the road. Karson Chaney scored 18 points and Aaliyah Broadus 17 for the Cougars, while Ari Boyd paced the Buffs with a game-high 20 and Leilani Gordon added 17. …Kiarra Spellman’s 21-point effort added to 15 from Kennedy Spellman for the Eaglecrest girls basketball team in a 55-48 Centennial League road win at Cherry Creek. …Ava Chang (15 points) and Sorrelle Kamgang (13) accounted for much of the offense for the Grandview girls basketball team in a 44-35 Centennial League home win over Mullen. …The Aurora West College Prep Academy girls basketball team prevailed over STEM School Highlands Ranch 45-30. …Kayden Zoeteway, Josh Fennelly, Guy Evilsizer, Marcus Washington, Alec Romero and Biram Griffey recorded wins by fall for the Rangeview boys wrestling team in a 54-29 dual victory over Aurora Central. The Trojans got pins from Antonio Lumba, Felix Morales and Federico Amezquita Lara. …The Aurora Central girls wrestling team edged an alternate Eaglecrest team 31-30 with help from pins by Karen Cardoza, Tremoni Scaggs, AnnaLeese Ruffin and Dryllyne Joseph. Bianca Salas Ramirez, Kendyll Harris, Autumn Chapla, Kailani Speers and Peyton Contes.
TUESDAY, JAN. 27: The Overland boys basketball team held Arapahoe to just 14 points in the opening half and went on to a 58-46 Centennial League road win that saw Demetrius Lambert lead the way with 21 points, while Mehki McNeal add 16. …Deon Davis Jr. tallied 17 points, Ual Yonas added 10 and Alex Flores nine for the Aurora Central boys basketball team in a 54-41 non-league home win over Conifer. …Jade Hibbler’s 26-point effort fueled the Vista PEAK Prep girls basketball team to a 51-41 City League home win over rival Rangeview. Amaya Nance joined Hibbler in double figures with 11 for the Bison, while Zania Romero paced the Raiders with nine, while Devyn Davenport and Mia Stanton added seven apiece. …The Aurora Central girls basketball team rolled past Skyline 57-31 as Bella Lumba tallied 16 points. …The Gateway girls basketball team picked up a 47-35 Colorado League victory over Adams City. …Paige Gust won the 200 yard individual medley and Baylei Polk took the 1-meter diving competition for the Grandview girls swim team in a 124-61 Centennial League home dual loss to Cherry Creek.
