Grandview’s Lily Williams — who won the Class 5A state championship in the 400 meter dash a few weeks earlier to cap her sophomore season — competed in another national-caliber meet when she ran at the prestigious Brooks PR meet June 8 at Renton Memorial Stadium in Renton, Wash.

Jan’Taijah Ford of Northeast H.S. in Oakland Park, Florida, ran a time of 53.06 seconds to win the 400 meters in an eight-runner field, while Williams clocked a 54.52 to finish fifth.

Williams was part of the Colorado contingent that fared well at the Great Southwest Classic meet the previous week. She ran 54.17 in the 400 meters in that meet at the University of New Mexico.
