REGIS JESUIT (SPRING 2024)

BOYS SWIMMING: The boys swim team saw its quest for a third straight 5A state championship come to end, but brought home a trophy for a runner-up finish behind Cherry Creek. Coach Nick Frasersmith’s Raiders did not have an individual state championship, but had three top-six relays and 13 individuals earned points. Junior Reid Magner came closest to a state title with a runner-up finish in the 200 yard individual medley in addition to a third-place in the 500 yard freestyle, while seniors Sean Greene-Cockriel and Owen Mulligan, juniors Hugh Boris and Shepard Kerscher and sophomore Nolan Kohl placed in two events apiece. Earlier in the season, Regis Jesuit won the Dick Rush Coaches Invitational.

BASEBALL: Coach Matt Darr’s team earned prime position going into the final weekend of the 5A Baseball Championship Series but fell short in its quest to win its first state title since 2019. The Raiders lost twice to Cherry Creek (which played for the last time with 52-year coaching veteran Marc Johnson at the helm) on the final day of the season — 11-1 and 5-2 — to finish 22-8. Seniors Andrew Bell (a Duke University recruit), Liam Mosley and Trevor Nordstrom were honored on the All-Continental League first team, while senior Brody Chyr garnered all-league second team honors.

BOYS LACROSSE: Ross Moscatelli took over the program as head coach (after Jim Soran retired following last season) and Regis Jesuit finished in the same spot as 2023 with a 5A semifinal loss to Valor Christian. Regis Jesuit upset Cherry Creek in the quarterfinals before falling to the eventual state champion Eagles to finish an 11-7 season. Seniors Connor Nesbitt, Gordon Reynolds, Jamie Rosenzweig and Henry Warta, plus sophomore William Wilson made the All-League 3 first team. The all-league second team was loaded with Regis Jesuit seniors Dylan Kummer and Matthew Tartell, juniors Rocco Biviano, Ben Stone and Jackson Large and freshman Zeb Mills.

GIRLS LACROSSE: Coach Crysti Foote’s Regis Jesuit team — the 5A state runner-up in 2023 — had a 9-7 campaign that ended in the state quarterfinals. Seniors Katie Kieran, Maeve O’Shaughnessy and Phoebe Rogala and junior Madisyn Jokerst achieved All-East League first team status and all four were also part of the Colorado High School Activities Association’s 5A All-State second team. Senior Emilia Calamari, sophomore Lainey Phillips and freshmen Brette Snapp made the all-league second team.

GIRLS GOLF: The senior-less girls golf team fully qualified for the 5A state tournament and had a top-10 finisher in junior Audrey Whitmore, who tied for ninth. Coach Charlie Rutenbeck’s team finished 11th in the final standings. Sophomore Natalie Furgason tied for 57th, while junior Paige Furgason and freshman Molly Amann were 63rd and 64th after two days of play at The Broadlands in Broomfield.

GIRLS TENNIS: The Raiders finished 9-2 in dual matches and qualified for the 5A team state tournament, where they were stopped 6-1 in the quarterfinals by top seeded and eventual state champion Ralston Valley. All seven lines also made the 5A individual state tournament for coach Jenn Armstrong’s team, but none earned top-four places in competition over three days at City Park in Denver.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL: Coach Kristi Gauss’ team finished with the same 14-11 record as the previous season and lost in regionals. Senior Sef Musani earned an All-Continental League first team accolade, while second team nods went to senior Gabe Sullivan, junior Callen Wolf and sophomore Clayton Kollmeyer.

TRACK & FIELD: Junior Charlie Dutmer won the Continental League championship in the 300 meter hurdles and placed sixth the event at the 5A boys state track meet, while coach Quinn Pack’s Raiders also had podium spots go to senior David Flaig (seventh in the 800 meters) and sophomore Michael Gambrill (ninth in the 200 meter dash).

GIRLS SOCCER: Coach Will Cropper’s team posted a 2-11-2 record — after it went 7-9 in 2023 — but had the player voted as the Continental League Player of the Year in senior midfielder Adi Walick, a University of Michigan recruit. Walick (who also was second team 5A All-State for the Colorado High School Activities Association) and senior Kate Thompson received All-Continental League first team accolades, while senior Samantha Woodward and junior Sienna Passaglia were all-league second team honorees.

NOTES: Regis Jesuit will have a new athletic director for the 2024-25 athletic season, as Todd Schuler — who came to the school from North Carolina two years ago — announced he had stepped down. …The school’s swim teams swim in the newly-christened “Missy Franklin Pool,” which was dedicated to the former Regis Jesuit star and five-time Olympic goal medalist Missy Franklin Johnson, who attended a ceremony on April 25.
