RANGEVIEW (SPRING 2024)
BASEBALL: Coach Chris Hughes’ Raiders improved by a win from the previous season with a 7-15 campaign (after a 6-14 season in 2023) that included a seven-inning no-hitter throw by versatile senior Max McGinnis, who earned an All-City League first team nod. The all-league honorable mention list included senior Micah McPhail, junior Sebastian Heredia-Ruiz and sophomore Ryan Luevanos.
TRACK & FIELD: The Class 5A state track meet saw three Rangeview athletes — senior Jaheim Alexander and freshman Yasin Sekue on the boys side and junior Maddie Kilmer on the girls — earned spots on the medal podium over three days at Jefferson County Stadium. Alexander lost the boys 110 meter hurdles state title by a fraction of a second (as he was the runner-up in the event for a second straight season), while Sekue (who won the City League championship in the high jump with a height of 6 feet, 6 1/2 inches that was the second-best in 5A for the entire season) placed ninth and Kilmer took fifth in the girls long jump for coach Marty Witmer’s team.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL: Coach Desarae Powell’s team earned one more win than in 2023 with an 11-12 mark (which signified a rise in the win column from 10-13 the previous season), and the Raiders split their 12 City League matches. Seniors Adriano Aldave-Orrego, Pethuel Ofori and Nicholas Tapparo all were All-City League honorable mention honorees.
GIRLS SOCCER: The Raiders had nearly an identical record as in 2023, as they finished with a 5-9-1 mark after they went 6-9 the previous season. Coach Vic Strouse had a pair of All-Class 5A City League first team performers on his roster in senior goalie Jazlyn Yomona and junior Hazel Bonansinga, while Yomona also got picked for the Colorado High School Coaches Association’s All-State Games in Pueblo. Senior Sherlyn Bravo made the all-league second team, while seniors Daniela Fossen and Samantha Mabry plus sophomore Mackenzie Moyers were honorable mention all-league.
BOYS LACROSSE: The co-op team finished 4-10 — up a win from last season — with a group that included senior Jibreal Jones, who made the All-4A Metro League first team. The all-league second team included senior Tristan Soria, while seniors Brandon Evilsizer, Ace Rivera and DaVaughn Smith-Vorrice and junior Connor White garnered honorable mention nods for coach Eric Dinkel’s team.
GIRLS TENNIS: The girls tennis team didn’t have home courts to play on, but coach Phil Elbein’s team finished 6-3 in dual matches. The Raiders played in the Class 5A Region 1 tournament hosted by Cherry Creek and had the fourth-place team at No. 3 doubles in senior Jocelyn Osorio and junior Allison Rodriguez-Morales.
GIRLS GOLF: The girls golf team had a qualifier for the Class 5A state tournament in senior De’Coda High, who secured one of the last individual spots available from the Western Region tournament at West Woods Golf Course. High was unable to play in the state tournament, however.
GIRLS LACROSSE: Junior Shylin Collins piled up 40 goals for coach Nicole Dyrdahl’s girls lacrosse team and was joined on the All-4A East League first team by sophomores Olivia Meldahl and Jazmyn Nunez. Second team all-league honors went to seniors Alyssa Dozier, Alexis Pettes and Victoria Yancey, while seniors Marivel Alvarez and Jada Jones and junior Emerson Hostetler were honorable mention.
