∙ Aurora area programs combine to have at least one wrestler in all 14 weight classes of the Class 5A girls state tournament, with multiple qualifiers in six weights (100 pounds, 110, 120, 125, 145, 170 and 235). Two of those weights have three local qualifiers in 170 (Eaglecrest senior Parice Jones, Overland junior Jackelyne Torreblanca Oseguera and Regis Jesuit freshman Alexandra Zimmerer), plus 235 (Aurora Central senior Dryllyne Joseph, Eaglecrest junior Brenna Brummet and Vista PEAK Prep junior Khloe Yizar).
∙ Tom Blair of Inside Colorado Wrestling released his predictions for the top six placewinners in each of the 14 weight classes and his projections have six Aurora wrestlers making their way onto the medal podium.
Blair’s projects have four Aurora wrestlers advancing to championship matches in Regis Jesuit junior Remington Zimmerer at 120 pounds (in which she is the defending state champion) and Vista PEAK Prep senior Amelia Bacon at 125 pounds (in which she is also the defending state champion) along with Eaglecrest senior Parice Jones at 170 pounds and Eaglecrest junior Brenna Brummet at 235 pounds. He has Zimmerer and Bacon repeating as champions with wins over Harleigh Prater of Central of Grand Junction and Bettie Rains of Thornton, respectively, while he has Jones falling to Shylee Tuzon of Central of Grand Junction and Brummet losing to Greeley West’s Abrianna Torrez in the other finals. Other projected placers: Eaglecrest sophomore Maxime Lantz (third at 140) and Vista PEAK Prep junior Khloe Yizar (third at 235).
∙ Among local qualifiers, five come in after winning regional championships and all came from the Region 2 at Lewis-Palmer High School, where Eaglecrest had a trio of bracket winners in sophomore Maxime Lantz at 140 pounds, sophomore Olivia Fabbricatore at 145 and senior Parice Jones at 170, while Regis Jesuit (junior Remington Zimmerer at 120 pounds) and Vista PEAK Prep (senior Amelia Bacon at 125 pounds) had one apiece. The Raptors also had Region 2 runners-up in senior Sofie Ghasabyan (100), sophomore Jayden Schwabauer (110), senior Jordan Heibult (125) and junior Audrey Braun (155), while Regis Jesuit freshman Alexandra Zimmerer (170) and Vista PEAK Prep junior Khloe Yizar (235) also took second place. Only one of Aurora’s qualifiers made state via a regional wrestleback and that was Aurora Central junior Tremoni Scaggs, who won the fifth-place match by medical forfeit and then pinned the loser of the third-place match to take the final 115-pound state spot from Region 4 at Fountain-Fort Carson High School. Overland junior Vera Welte gets a chance in the 130-pound bracket after Vista PEAK Prep senior Idaly Garcia got the fourth place position, but could not compete due to injury.
∙ Vista PEAK Prep senior Amelia Bacon is the most seasoned among Aurora’s qualifiers with four appearances. She has a career record of 9-3, including a 4-0 appearance in 2025 when she won the 125-pound state championship, while she went 3-1 as a state runner-up in 2024 and 2-2 in 2023. Bacon is one of five returning state placers from last season’s state tournament, as Regis Jesuit junior Remington Zimmerer is also a returning state champion (120 pounds), while three others placed fourth in Eaglecrest sophomore Maxime Lantz (140) and senior Parice Jones (190 pounds, while wrestling for Vista PEAK Prep) and Vista PEAK Prep junior Khloe Yizar (235). Eaglecrest senior Sydney Babi is a three-time qualifier (with a 3-4 record in the two previous trips), while Raptors’ seniors Jones (3-2 in 2025), Sofie Ghasabyan (0-2 in 2025) and Jordan Heibult (1-2 in 2025) and juniors Lantz (4-2 in 2025) and Brenna Brummet (0-2 in 2025), Vista PEAK Prep’s Yizar (4-2 in 2025) and senior Hailey Brown (0-2 in 2025), Overland juniors Dureti Abdulkadir (1-2 in 2025) and Jackelyne Torreblanca Oseguera (1-2 in 2025) and Regis Jesuit’s Zimmerer (4-0 in 2025) make their second state appearances. The remaining 11 Aurora wrestlers will make their first state appearances.
∙ Three of Aurora’s qualifiers come into state with 40 wins and hail from different programs in Vista PEAK Prep senior Amelia Bacon at 125 pounds (43-0) — one of nine undefeated wrestlers in the 5A girls state tournament — Regis Jesuit junior Remington Zimmerer at 120 pounds (43-2) and Eaglecrest senior Jordan Heibult at 125 pounds (41-11). Twenty-two the 23 Aurora area state qualifiers have winning records with just one below .500.
∙ For a fourth straight season, there is a family tie in the tournament as Vista PEAK Prep senior Amelia Bacon qualified, as did her twin brother, Ian, who is in the Class 5A boys 120 pound bracket. Both won regional championships this season and won state championships last season.
∙ The breakdown of Aurora state qualifiers by year: nine are seniors, eight are juniors and there are four sophomores and two freshmen.
